After consulting with area high school coaches, BCSN Toledo/Erie play-by-play announcers, basketball analysts, and Sports Nightly anchors and reporters, we have compiled a list of the Top 30 boys and Top 30 girls basketball players in the Northwest Ohio and Southeast Michigan region. This list focuses on players within the Buckeye Broadband/BCSN footprint in the Toledo and Sandusky markets while also recognizing outstanding players from the 13abc (BCSN’s television partner) viewing area.

The Top 5 boys players and the Top 5 girls players will be deemed First Team All-BCSN. They will each have online profiles posted to BCSNnation.com and TV features on BCSN.

TOP 5 BOYS

Antione West, Whitmer Junior

He’s one of the highest rated recruits in Northwest Ohio with college scholarship offers from a multitude of Division I-level schools like Penn State, Arizona State, Toledo and Georgia. West averages 20 points, 6 rebounds, and 3 assists per game. He reached 1,000 career points earlier this season. He’s been named First Team All-Northern Lakes League and the District 7 Player of the Year. Is the second time West has earned First Team All-BCSN honors. Coach Anthony Stacey said, “Antione is a once-every-few-decades type of player. He is the hardest working player that I’ve ever seen and has evolved his game this season into a point guard role as his passing has risen to the next level. He is extremely coachable, has a high basketball IQ, can score from all three levels and always wants to guard the opposing team’s best player. He is a true leader on the court and will go down as one of the best players in Whitmer history if not the best of all-time!”

  

Nate Miles III, Emmanuel Christian Sophomore

He is nearing 1,000 career high school points and has helped lead the Warriors to the program’s first regional tournament. He has been named the District Player of the Year and has three Division I-level college scholarship offers along with interest with schools like Purdue, Western Michigan, Eastern Michigan, Duquesne, Illinois, Bowling Green, and Cleveland State. He averages 24 points and 10 rebounds a game. He scored 42 points in a win over Anthony Wayne and his coach Sed Harris said, “Nate is a very unselfish player, true competitor and does not mind begin coached hard. He has elevated the program both on and off the court with his relentless work ethic and genuine support for others.”

 

Javonte Hill, Findlay Senior

While averaging 17 points, 4 rebounds, 2 assists, and 1 steal per game, he was named the Northern Lakes League Buckeye Division Player of the Year. He was also named First Team All-District 8. Findlay coach Jim Rucki said, “Javonte is one of the most explosive athletes that we have had at Findlay.  He was able to create offense for himself and for his teammates.  He made quite a few highlight reel plays, and was featured on ESPN’s SportsCenter Top Plays.”

 

Jaylen Murphy, St. John’s Senior

He’s been an on-court leader for the Titans and has helped lead them to the regional tournament while averaging 18 points, 4 rebounds, 3 assists, and 2 steals per game. He has been named First Team All-District 7 and First Team All-CHSL. He holds the St. John’s single-game record for three pointers made with nine. He’s being recruited by several NCAA Division II, III, and NAIA colleges. Coach Mike Schoen said, “Jaylen ascension has been consistent during his time at SJJ.  He has gotten better every year.  He has always had a unique skill set with his shooting ability and court sense.  He has now added different ways to score as well as becoming a great defender.  Jaylen improvement has been vast, and it all starts with his love for basketball and his IQ of the game.”

  

Micah Bays, Southview Senior

He’s an elite scorer who averaged 20 points, 5 rebounds, 3 assists, and 2 steals per game for the Cougars. He was named First Team All-District and Northern Lakes League Cardinal Division Player of the Year. He scored 1,181 career points and helped lead Southview to the NLL Cardinal Division title. He has a college scholarship offer from Lake Erie College and also has interest from several other Division II schools. Coach Dennis Springs said, “Micah is the extension of the coach on the floor.  He has one of the highest IQ’s for the game that I have seen in a high school basketball player.  We asked him to do a lot this season and he delivered every night.  Coaching a kid like Micah is rare and I enjoyed every minute.  That kid has a ton more basketball to play beyond high school and maybe even beyond college. “

 

TOP 5 GIRLS

Breayah Jefferson, Rogers Senior

She was a scoring machine for the Rams averaging 24 points a game. She also averaged 3 rebounds, 1 assist, and 3 steals a game. She finished with 1,289 career points. She was named the Toledo City Athletic League Player of the Year and First Team All-District. She has received college interest from Henry Ford Community College, Edison State Community College, and Jackson College. Coach Lamar Smith said, “Breayah Jefferson is a player that played with a lot of passion, heart, energy and led our team in scoring and was fearless on the court.”

 

Brooklyn Vaughn, Central Catholic Senior

She averaged a double-double with 14 points and 11 rebounds a game for the Fighting Irish. She also averaged 2 assists and 2 steals a game. On top of that, over the course of her high school career she accumulated 1,074 points and 1,003 rebounds. She was named First Team All-District and District Player of the Year. She was also named First Team All-BCSN in 2023. She will play her college basketball at Loyola of Chicago next year. Acting head coach Terry Murnen said, “Brooklyn has had a tremendous impact on the Lady Irish basketball program. She’s a great leader and a hard worker. She makes everyone around her better.”

  

Destiny Robinson, Fremont Ross Senior

The future University of Toledo Rocket is a 1,000 point scorer and the second leading scorer in program history. She averaged 16 points, 7 rebounds, 5 assists, and 4 steals per game. She averaged 3.13 assists for every turnover. Head coach Juan Vela said, “Destiny Robinson has left her mark in our Fremont Ross girls basketball program. I have not seen too many athletes in any sport who love the game as much as she does.  Her work ethic has been impressive to watch.  She carries herself with respect and has high standards for herself.  She is a very humble person and understands her priorities that actually matter in life.  It has truly been an honor for me to coach this young lady. I am excited to see what her future brings to her.”

  

Elise Bender, Anthony Wayne Junior

She’s already the program’s all-time leading scorer and she still has her senior season to go. She averaged 22 points, 7 rebounds, 2 assists, and 3 steals per game while leading the Generals to the regional tournament. She’s made the most career free throws in program history and scored in double figures every game this season. She was named as a finalist for Ohio Ms. Basketball. She was also named the Northwest District Player of the Year and Northern Lakes League Buckeye Division Player of the Year. It’s the third straight season she’s been named First Team All-BCSN. She has several Division I college scholarship offers from schools like Villanova, Toledo, Bowling Green, Youngstown State, Kent State, Harvard, Cleveland State, Ohio, Central Michigan, Loyola of Chicago, and Oakland. Coach Jami Carter said, “During Elise’s high school career she has proven to be one of the top players in the state of Ohio. Elise, along with her teammates, has elevated our program to one of the premier programs in Northwest Ohio. Elise has an uncanny ability to create offensive opportunities for herself oftentimes earned from her defensive skill set. Elise possesses an elite level of competitiveness all while maintaining a team-first attitude.”

 

Kendall Braden, Toledo Christian Senior

The future University of Toledo Rocket is a three-time First Team All-BCSN player. She owns the school record for career points with 1,864 and the school record for three pointers made with 212. She scored 48 points in a single game was named a McDonald’s All-American nominee. This season she was named Toledo Area Athletic Conference Player of the Year and First Team All-District. Coach Tim Wensink said, “Kendall helped elevate our program to one of the top programs in the state. She works extremely hard and is a wonderful teammate. I am very blessed to have coached Kendall and to be a part of her journey. She has set many records at Toledo Christian.  I am super proud of how she handles herself on and off the court.”
